About Our Farm
In its essential nature, a farm is a self-contained individuality.
An intimate, family-owned farm in the Hudson Valley, Milk Thistle is home to the Hesse family: Dante, Kristin, and their three young children. Dante already wanted to be a farmer when he was 9 years old... and there is nothing he would rather be doing. Along with a few hard-working assistants, he nurtures the farm as though it were his own family — and he knows each cow by name!
In keeping with organic principles, we never use any chemical pesticides or fertilizers. Most of the food our cows eat grows right here on the farm. We don’t give our herd synthetic hormones or antibiotics, which we believe is better for them and for you. Milk Thistle Farm is are proud to be certified organic* and also implements agricultural practices inspired by the work of Rudolf Steiner.
